If you like the idea of a stick-style vacuum cleaner but are put off by the premium prices a few budget options are available. This model from John Lewis features a collapsible design which converts into a small handheld when needed and comes in 2 versions, an ultra-budget 14.4v or a better performing 21.6v
The 14.4v Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner (£129) has a floorhead with a rotating brush and a 0.5 litre dust capacity. Two power settings allow a degree of suction control and the power will last for between 15 and 25 minutes depending on setting. Recharge time from flat to full power is 4 hours.
Included is a crevice tool, a dusting brush attachment and a wall-mount attachment.
Which were rather critical of this model citing poor suction as a major problem. There are some positive reviews on the John Lewis site though, so it really does depend upon expectations as to how pleased or disappointed you’re going to be with this vacuum cleaner?
The 21.6v Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner (£149) – is similar in spec but with more suction, obviously, due to the more powerful motor. Run time is slightly better also at 18 to 40 minutes, depending on setting, but with a longer recharge time of 5 hours.
Again, Which were not overly impressed although being a more powerful option is an obvious benefit. Reviews on site, again, are mainly positive – so make of that what you will?
As far as budget options go, these offerings from John Lewis are pretty much par for the course in this price bracket. They look smart and are easy to operate; you also get a 2 year guarantee on either model.
So long as you’re not hoping to replace a regular vacuum cleaner and just need a quick and easy occasional option, these do the job as well as any other for the money so are worthy of your consideration.
